Torrential rain:

economically significant and nevertheless neglected!

Torrential rain

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), there are also changes for the extreme values of the rainfall in the case of a change in the average value which particularly directly affect society as floodwater or in the case of their absence as drought. Therefore it is meaningful, in addition to the average rainfall, to also consider torrential rain.

50% of the insurance damage due to surface water in the case of torrential rain is produced by the large amount of water and not by flooding and backwater. The new zoning model of torrential rain hazard from geomer addresses this problem.

Maps of the torrential rain hazard can be profitably used in the following areas:

  • for the zoning of insurance products (building and machinery insurance)
  • as contribution to the expert report in the case of damage
  • for the planning of new building areas and commercial premises
  • for the dimensioning of protection measures
